Statement on School Committee Report about Principal Departures

February 6, 2022

Many members of the Amherst-Pelham Regional School staff were concerned by a February 4th article on MassLive that offered one perspective on the reasons for high administrative turnover within the district, and tacitly blamed our school community for creating “unfortunate situations” that led to the departure of several school leaders. The contents of the report account for only some of the complex reasons behind recent administrative departures. School staff members share in the school committee and superintendent’s concerns about the impact of inconsistent leadership on our schools, and we would welcome an honest and collaborative process to address issues of concern around the recruitment, hiring and retention of our school leaders.
