After much member advocacy and community support, the APEA and the ARPS School Committee have reached a tentative agreement that would result in a$1.00/hour increase for paraeducators (Unit C). The tentative agreement also involves a 1% increase for Unit B members (secretarial and administrative support staff) and a 0.6% increase for Unit A (teachers, counselors). The APEA has been vocal in the past few months about the difficulty of many paraeducators to live sustainably on their salaries. Paraeducators do many essential jobs, from supporting students with a range of physical and academic needs, to library and technology assistance and coordination.
