President
The APEA is calling for nominations to complete the 2019-2021 President’s term. In collaboration with the Executive Board [Vice-President, Treasurer, Unit chairs and EMAC chair], the APEA President sets policy for negotiations with the District, grievance procedures and the APEA budgeting process. The President and Executive Board also facilitate coordination between the APEA and the Massachusetts Teachers Association and other organized labor initiatives. The President also plays a vital role communicating the goals and issues of the APEA with the membership and the general public; the President is the public face of the APEA.
All APEA officers are called to act on our principles of democratic accountability, transparency, and inclusivity. As part of our efforts to dismantle white supremacist culture and institutional racism, all APEA elected officers and representatives will participate in anti-bias and anti-racist training at least once per calendar year.
In 2020-21, the President and Executive Council can expect to take a lead on negotiating COVID work conditions, collaborating in District antiracism initiatives and pursuing contract negotiations for our next three-year contract.
Service as APEA President is compensated by an annual stipend of $5,500.
The APEA bylaws are currently under review and revision. The President’s duties are being re-examined with an eye toward transparency and power sharing with the Executive Board, Representative Council and membership. Stipends may be raised in the bylaw review process to more fairly reflect the responsibilities of office holding.
